Court Etiquette and Expectations

  • Arrive promptly and early. Free parking is available behind the courthouse and in the parking garage. You will be asked to go through a metal detector upon entering the building, so please dress and plan your time accordingly.
  • Wear business professional attire.
  • Do not bring children if they are to be left unattended. There is no place to leave children while you are in court.
  • Please silence your cell phone.
  • Food, drinks, gum etc. are not allowed in the courtroom.
  • Address the Judge and Magistrate as “Your Honor”.
  • If you have an attorney, make sure you have spoken with them prior to your court appearance.
  • The court does not notarize anything.
  • Employees of the courthouse cannot give legal advice.
  • Speak only when given permission while in court. Answer any questions briefly and to the point.
  • Speak properly and clearly for the ease of the Judge and court reporter.
  • Do not interrupt while someone else is talking, only one person may talk at a time for court recording purposes.
